For those who think Smart Gilas is a Douthit-and-Others team, think again.
JV Casio took up the cudgels for the Nationals by scoring 29 big points against the big boys of the PBA, driving Smart Gilas to a 98-97 win over the Powerade Tigers. He also scored the winning basket, a driving, underhanded layup past two Powerade defenders.
What made this victory sweeter was the fact that Marcus Douthit did not play, belying the claims of bitter PBA watchers that Smart Gilas wins only because they have a 6'11" "import".
And adding salt to injury was the fact that the Nationals were down by 23 points in the second quarter...but proved to be the more mature, confident and skilled team.
Marcio Lassiter showcased his vast array of moves around the basket to chip in 21 points, Chris Lutz added 11 and Japeth Aguilar had a good game with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Powerade Tigers were led by import Martin Zeno with 28points and Gary David with 21points.
