The draw for World Cup qualifiers has been made and the Azkals' opponent has been determined.
It's going to be the Philippine Azkals going up against the Sri Lankan Brave Reds.
This is good news for the Philippines, as Sri Lanka is currently ranked much lower than the Philippines by FIFA. While the Azkals sit at 151, the Brave Reds come in at 173.
The first round of the World Cup qualifiers is a home-and-away affair, similar to the series against Mongolia. Sri Lanka hosts the first game on June 29 while the Philippines takes it turn on July 3. If the Azkals win their series against Sri Lanka, they will face the much tougher Kuwait, currently ranked 101 by FIFA.
Proposed venues for the Philippine match are the Rizal Memorial Coliseum and the Panaad pitch in Bacolod City.
