Not these Nuggets, especially after they outlasted the defending champion LA Lakers, 95-90 at the Staples Center.
The Nuggets had 4 players in double figure scoring, something they rarely had when 'Melo was still in Denver. Kenyon Martin had 18points and 12 rebounds, Danilo "The Cock" Gallinari had a Melo-esque 22points and 7 rebounds, Nene had 12 points and 7 rebounds and Raymond Felton had 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Lakers were led by Kobe Bryant's 28 points and 4 rebounds, Pau Gasol's 16 points and 12 rebounds, Lamar Odom's 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Andrew Bynum's 8 points 16 rebounds. Ron Artest had another subpar game, ending up with 5 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in 29 mins of action.
The Lakers loss was their first in 10 games, which included a beatdown of the league-leading San Antonio Spurs. The revamped Nuggets proved to be a tough nut to crack, with so many players proving to be threats both inside the pain and beyond the arc.
I'm still not putting my money on them in a 7game series against the Lakers but I'll take these Nuggets over the NY Knicks any day.
