March Madness has started in the US but we Filipinos will probably notcie only when we get to the Final Four. (We are just in the Sweet Sixteen phase).
That being said, I'd like to pay tribute to this great tournament by showing you some of its greatest moments.
We start off with the touching story of Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers. Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers were high school buddies who won championships every step of the way. They were so close that they even got thrown out of USC together.
The pair were such a dominant force in the Loyla Marymount system that they were both projected to be NBA lottery picks. All that soon came to an end as Hank Gathers took the ball in for a tomahawk dunk, collapsed on the floor and died.
Bo Kimble, his best friend and a righthanded player, decided to honor Hank Gathers by shooting his free throws left handed, in memory of Gathers attempt to correct his own FT woes by shooting lefthanded.
Kimble went 4-4 while shooting FT's left handed and he continued this practice in the NBA, shooting his first FT's of the game with his left hand.
Here's the clip of the actual moment.
To you, Bo Kimble, and to you, Hank Gathers, a salute.
