Teamwork? Check. Firepower? Double check. Dominating? Triple check. If you still aren't on the Smart Gilas bandwagon, it's time to get on!
Smart Gilas showed discipline, teamwork, cohesiveness and a killer instinct in in dealing the SMB Beermen a 109-68 walloping. Marcus Douthit led the balance Gilas effort with 17points, with Barroca and Ababou joining him with the same number of points. Marcio Lassiter and Chris Lutz had 16 and 14 points respectively.
At this point in time, it seems like Marcus Douthit is the man Caloy Loyzaga used to be...the big difference. He's making the difference in both offense and defense, collaring rebound after rebound and setting the tone inside. What we should be worried about is how far we can ride him.
Douthit is about 30years old and we can get around 4 years out of him. Is he enough for us to get into the Olympics? I don't think so. I think former college stars Chris Tiu and JV Casio must regain their deadly collegiate forms while young big men like Aguilar and Slaughter develop into potent threats on both sides of the court.
But for now, the Nationals are locked, loaded and gunning for PBA glory.
