It's a blow that will either sink the Azkals or allow them to shine even more.
Phil Younghusband, the team's top goal scorer and the tip of the Azkals attack, will miss the AFC Challenge Cup match against the host country, Myanmar, slated on March 21.
Younghusband tweaked his hamstring in the second half of the loss against the Blue Wolves of Mongolia. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI in the Philippines today to determine the extent of his injury.
Initial assessment of his condition indicates that it might be weeks before Phil Younghusband fully recovers from his injury. By that time, the single round robin phase would have been over and the Philippines either would be in the Elite Eight or ruing the day they lost their lead striker.
Azkals coach Hans Michael Weiss doesn't seem too worried, however. He was quick to name 2 players who could ably fill in for Younghusband; new recruits Angel Guirado, a Fil-Spanish striker for a Spanish Division 3 club and Laguna-born William Espinosa, who played football in Germany.
