Pesky defense. Timely offense. And JV Casio.
Those three were the biggest factors as Smart Gilas shocked ASU-Jordan 76-74 in a hotly contested preliminary match in the 2011 FIBA-Asia Champions Cup.
Riding on the heroics of the diminutive Casio in the pivotal 4th quarter, Gilas survived 2 desperate threepointers from Jordan, who now face the unenviable task of beating Group B's Al Rayyan-Qatar, last year's runners up.
Dondon Hontiveros also starred for the Nationals, hitting 6 threepointers and scoring 23 points while Asi Taulava grabbed 12 rebounds to go with his four points.
Tomorrow, Gilas will go up against Syria's Al Jala-a, Group B's 4th seed, for a seat in the semifinal round.
