They shot horribly and kept turning the ball over.But thanks to a stingy defense, Smart Gilas was still able to pull out a 10-point victory over former import CJ Giles and Duhok of Iraq.
Leading all the way, Gilas seemed about to cruise to victory when Duhok made its move in the third quarter, cutting down a 15 point Gilas lead to just 2 early in the fourth quarter.
Again, defense proved to be the great difference as Gilas stymied Iraq while scoring second and even third chance points due to superior rebounding.
Gilas faces ASU Jordan tomorrow, for the number seeding in Group A and a much easier path to the finals.
