Gilas Pulls Away in 2nd Half Against Malaysia!

On paper, it looked like an easy out. But for 2 quarters, the Westport KL Dragons more than held their own against Smart Gilas.

Then Asi Taulava made his move.

Thee Dragons got outmuscled and outhustled by Taulava, Chris Lutz and MacMac Baracael and Mark Barroca as Gilas turned a 1 point halftime deficit into a 31 point victory, 95-64.

The Gilas defense was so stingy that they held the Dragons to just 9 points in the third quarter, while compiling 22 sizzling points.

PBA hostshot Dondon Hontiveros shook off a1-11 outing yesterday by hitting 4-7 and wound up with 10 points. 5 other Gilas players scored at least 10 points, including Mark Barroca, JV Casio, Chris Tiu, MacMac Baracael and Chris Lutz.

My Pick for Game MVP: Asi Taulava. Replaced the ineffective Marcus Douthit in the second half and sparked a defensive stand that was a marvel to behold. Hauled down 12 rebounds plus made 2 sweet post moves that still have Malaysian import Chris Ayer shaking his head.
