Rene Catalan, a former wushu champion who brought 7 medals to the Philippines, including golds in the 2005 SEA Game and 2006 Asian Games, has been denied his retirement benefits and incentives by the Wushu Federation of the Philippines.
The Ilonggo athlete needs the money so he can pay for the burial expenses of his premature baby, who died due to sepsis. Catalan did not have the 15thousand pesos needed to have lifesaving procedures done to his baby and instead, must be content with being able to bury his child.
