If he doesn't fight in the next two months, that may very well be the case.
WBC rules stipulate that their champions must defend their title every 4 months. If they have not done so after 6 months, they will be stripped of their title.
Nonito Donaire has not fought since winning the crown against Fernando Montiel on February 19 of this year. He has until August to set up a fight before the 6 month rule applies to him.
A big reason for Donaire's inactivity is the legal battle he is embroiled in. Both Golden Boy Productions and Top Rank are slugging it out for the rights to promote Donaire's fights and until that is resolved, Donaire can not fight.
