For Smart Gilas, every game will be a fight to the finish.
That's because every opponent Gilas will face in Group D is a legitimate contender for the crown, from multi-titled China (which will be led by NBA player Yi Jianlian) to the very physical UAE team and even bruising Bahrain.
The three other groups have at least one weak team, with 2 groups possibly having 2 weak teams.
Group A has powerhouses Lebanon and Korea, as well as minnow Malaysia and a (most likely weak) wildcard from Middle Asia.
Group B has defending champion Iran, GCC champoins Qatar, Chinese Taipei and another wildcard from Middle Asia.
Group C is the weakest group, with Japan, Jordan, Indonesia and Syria drawing the good fortune to land here.
Which means the Philippines will need to be on their game the entire tournament, because one subpar or even so-so game can boot them out the door.
