NBA SUMMER LEAGUE: Bobby Ray Parks Makes His Mark.

Bobby Ray Parks is finally logging in significant minutes and making nice contributions to the suddenly potent Mavs summer league team.

In his first three games, Parks looked liked he was struggling to adjust to the NBA style and pace. He actually had more fouls (3) and more turnovers (2) than points (1) or rebounds (1).

Against the Lakers, Parks seemed to settle down. Playing 15 minutes, he scored 3 points and had 1 rebound to go with 1 steal. More importantly, he had no turnovers.

And then, against the D-League selection, he finally started to look like the Bobby Ray Parks Filipino fans were familiar with. In 21 minutes of play, he scored 10 points, had 5 rebounds, 4 steals and again, no turnovers. Not  a bad performance at all.

It's been a long journey for Bobby Ray Parks and the end of the road is still nowhere in sight.

As of this writing, Parks had already played in his second Summer League, finally scoring a point and grabbing 1 rebound in almost 8 minutes of gametime.

Still, it was a big improvement over his first Summer League game, when he looked jittery en route to a 1 foul, 1 turnover game in just 3 minutes of play.

Of course, these stats don't really tell the entire story. Bobby Ray Parks is by no means a bust, if that word can be used on an undrafted rookie with lots of room to grow.

NBA DRAFT: Where Potential Trumps Production

If you were the general manager of an NBA team and you had to choose, would you go for:

A) An unproven 19 year old who's 7'2" but is very raw skills-wise, has not had any international playing experience and barely makes a dent in the local basketball scene














Or

B) A 22 year old swingman who was recruited by US NCAA Division I colleges, won back-to-back collegiate MVP's and represented his country countless times in the international arena, even winning championships in regional tilts?

MVP Parks Has Something To Prove.

Bobby Ray Parks is the first UAAP MVP to come from NU. He's also the first to come from a non-Final Four team.

And that seems to be enough for people to question whether he deserves to be the UAAP MVP.

The young Parks hears all the questions and criticisms but says he prefers to let his actions speak for him. Parks aims to improve his game over the year-long break and prove to one and all that his MVP title is well-deserved.

Douthit, Slaughter, Parks, Ravena To Banner SEAG Team!

Marcus Douthit, Greg Slaughter, Kiefer Ravena and Bobby Ray Parks. That's a pretty decent starting lineup for the Philippines, no matter who play at shooting guard.

These four, including collegiate standouts RR Garcia, Aldrech Ramos, Ronald Pascual, Garvo Lanete, Elvin Pascual, Emman Monfort and Nico Salva will form the backbone of the basketball team the SBP will send to the SEA games this December.

Other possible members for the team are Gilas skipper Chris Tiu, Fil-Ams Clifford Hodge and Chris Ellis as well as collegiate stars, Jerick Fortuna, Calvin Abueva and Kevin Alas.

Bobby Ray Parks Leads UAAP Scoring!

NU's prized rookie Bobby Ray Parks is certainly shooting his way to fame. Now if only he can shoot NU into more victories.

Parks is currently the UAAP scoring leader with an average of 19.3 points per game. Three players are tied at second place, namely DLSU's LA Revilla, Adamson's Alex Nuyles and reigning MVP RR Garcia of FEU, all with a 16.3 ppg.

Despite Parks torrid shooting clip, NU has only 1 victory in 3 games.

Also known as Ateneo 1, NU 0.

It was a good thing the Ateneo-NU game featured two of the most exciting UAAP rookies because the game itself was over and done by the third quarter.

Ateneo put together a scintillating scoring run in the second quarter to erect an 18point halftime lead and continued on their scoring ways into the third to go up by 32 points.

Kiefer Ravena had 13 points for the Blue Eagles while Bobby Ray Parks topscored for the Bulldogs with 20points.

Forget the similarities of how their basketball careers have started. Both were highly touted high school prospects who were rumored to be going to US NCAA Division I colleges. Both represented the Philippines in the Youth Games. Both have impeccable basketball pedigree, being sons of outstanding PBA players.
