Iran leads 36-27.
It was a bad, bad start for the Philippines as Iran blazed out to an 11-2 lead, courtesy of Hamed Haddadi. Haddadi has singlehandedly destroyed Team Pilipinas, mocking the defense of Marcus Douthit, Japeth Aguilar and Asi Taulava.
In fact, at one point in the second quarter, Haddadi had just as many points(22) as the entire Gilas team.
The loss of JV Casio to injury means only one thing: there's even more pressure now on the shoulders of Douthit. He has not done well at all, picking up 2 fouls in the first 5 minutes of the first quarter and shooting 0-7 in the same span.
Why is Gilas done by just 9? Mark Barroca has been phenomenal as well, scoring 8 straight points in the first quarter and continuing to do well in the second. Aguilar has also been solid on defense but Douthit, with his foul trouble, has let Haddadi have around 5 dunks already.
The rest of the Gilas team has been, well, bad. Hontiveros, Tiu, Lassiter and Lutz are not looking like themselves and the entire team has been very lazy at rebounding. It;s like the ball has smallpox and Iran has already had their shots while Gilas hasn't.
If we want to make it to the finals, we have to do an infinitely better job than what we've shown in the first half.
