CANDACE PARKER IS WNBA MVP & ROY!

She's young but she routinely and thoroughly outplays stars 5-10 years older.

She's big but she outruns and outdribbles most WNBA point guards.

She's pretty but she outrebounds and outmuscles heftier and more, ehem, "masculine" players.

She's 22 year old Candace Parker, the LA Sparks' prized rookie, who has just made history by being the first WNBA player to win both the Rookie of the Year Award as well as the Most Valuable Player award in the same season.

Of course, her offseason goal was to win the WNBA championship and that isn't gonna happen...Still the ROY and MVP awards are pretty good consolation prizes.

BAD BOY TO THE BONE?

In the late 90's, Rick Mahorn was a Bad Boy who earned his championship spurs with the Pistons.

Earlier this week, Mahorn was involved in another fracas that brought back those days of infamy, this time involving erstwhile LA Sparks star Lisa Leslie.

In an altercation between the Sparks and the Shock, Mahorn charged in, trying to break up the fight. In the course of breaking it up, the 6'10" Mahorn allegedly pushed the 6'5" Leslie, causing her to fall to the ground. 

Mahorn was then subjected to a series of punches from the back from a Spark in retaliation.

Two days later, Mahorn has given a suspension for 2 games while Leslie got a 1 game suspension.

So is this a case of "no good deed goes unpunished?""

Unless you lived under a rock in the last decade or so, chances are the "Brawl in the Palace" between the Pacers and the Pistons is among your most cherished sports brawl.

Well, you can add this one to the growing collection of Palace fisticuffs.

Super rookie Candace Parker of the Sparks gets taken down which starts a catfight on the court! It's so amazing because, for one brief second, ,you don't even realize it's girls fighting. Punches were swung, people got tackled, people flew back from shoves (more on that later) and the WNBA is finally the lead story in ESPN.
