Treat Huey and Cecil Mamiit gave it all they could but they could not come away with the win as they fell to Chinese Taipei 3-6, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, 8-6.
Yi Chu Huan and Lee Hsin Han were also the same doubles team who beat Mamiit and Huey at the Guangzhou Asian Games.
The Philippines must win both reverse singles matches tomorrow to avoid being relegated to Group II.

Treat Huey, Partner End Run In Third Round!
Doubles specialist and Fil-Am Davis Cupper Treat Huey and his partner Somdev Devvarman never thought they'd make it to the third round of the US Open in New York.
Well, they did but that feat would have to suffice for now, as the giant-killing duo ran into an Indian roadblock in veterans Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati, losing their match 6-4, 7-5.
Huey and Devvarman first hurdled the Argentinian duo of Juan Ignacio Chela and Eduardo Schwank, a pair who was expected to have an easy time over Huey and Devvarman. But impeccable teamwaork between the Filipino and his partner saw them dominate the Argentinians 6-3, 6-4.

Treat Huey To Join Davis Cup Team?
There is still a slim chance that he might. And that would be tremendous news for the Philippines.
But it all depends on how far Huey reaches in the ATP Hall Of Fame Championships. Winning games in the tournament may mean Huey has to skip the Davis Cup match against New Zealand but the long term benefits far outweighs this.

RP Davis Cupper lose to Japan 3-1!
It was a gallant battle but history won out once again.Cecil Mamiit, the face of Philippine tennis the past decade succumbed once more to a younger, well rested Go Soeda, 7-6(5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 during the 4th match of the Davis Cup held in Cebu.
Mamiit gave it his all but the taller, harder hitting Japanese simply overpowered the Filipino with crisp shots from the baseline.
The Filipinos were holding on to a glimmer of hope after Mamiit and Huey won the doubles match last Saturday in style, blitzing the Japanese tandem of Takao Suzuki and Hirko Kondo 6-1, 7-6(5), 6-2.
The Japanese have now won 18 Davis Cup ties (out of 27) against the Philippines, including the last 4 ties.
The Filipinos go up against New Zealand this July, in a bid to retain their position in Group I.
