In the latest episode of the nation's most gut-wrenching basketball drama, the SBP once again changed their minds and are now sending a team to the Asian Games in Indonesia.
They are now going back to their original plan, which is to send the core group of the Rain Or Shine Elasto Painters and to augment that with a few key additions from other teams.
Here's the final lineup:
Maverick Ahanmisi (RoS)
Raymond Almazan (RoS)
Beau Belga (RoS)
Gabe Norwood (RoS)
Chris Tiu (RoS)
James Yap (RoS)
Stanley Pringle (Globalport)
Christian Standhardinger (San Miguel)
Paul Lee (Magnolia)
JP Erram (Blackwater)
Don Trollano (Talk 'N Text)
Asi Taulava (NLEX)
Kobe Paras (Cadets)
Ricci Rivero (Cadets)
Projected Starting Five:
Stanley Pringle - a dynamic ball handler and scorer, Pringle will have no problems upholding the legacy of stellar Gilas guards. He will also be, with Paul Lee, the undisputed star of this team.
Paul Lee - the "Lee-thal Weapon" will be the other main gunner for us. While Pringle is mostly stealth and technique, Lee can go from speedy to bruising to sneaky, all in the same play.
Gabe Norwood - the ultimate glue guy. He will anchor the defense and make a few threepointers and a couple of highlight plays but then again, that's Gilas Gabe for you.
Raymond Almazan - the enigmatic, Jeckyll-and-Hyde player who can either dominate or disappear from the game from start to finish. Hoping we get the Jeckyll version.
Christian Standhardinger - crafty, passionate, and totally selfless. Standhardinger is far from athletic but he makes up for it in brains and drive.
Key Bench Players:
James Yap - the aging star who, hopefully, can turn back time and deliver on a few vintage "Big Game James" performances.
JP Erram - surprisingly one of the best young big men we have in the PBA right now. Also, surprisingly hot tempered recently. If he can get from being too emotional, Erram should have a nice tournament.
Asi Taulava - the lack of quality big men have led Coach Yeng to recalling into service the "Ageless One". Asi provides leadership and a big body down low, something we may very well need because of our lineup's lack of height.
More analysis in the coming days.
