It could be a case of homerism...except that, after the 9-0 shellacking the Negrenses levied on rival Iloilo, these players have proven that they more than deserve consideration for the SEA Games Team.
Norman Fegidero, coach of the Negros Team that won the U-23 PFF Suzuki Cup in scintillating fashion, has endorsed strikers Joshua Beloya, Joven Bedic, Lemuel Unabia and Aldrin Dolino plus defender Carmelo Tacusalme to Azkals coach Hans Michael Weiss as candidates for the SEA Game squad.
Beloya won the Best Striker Award, Tacusalme was named the best defender while Dolino was crowned the MVP of the first ever U-23 PFF Suzuki Cup.
Six Azkals have already been seeded places on the team, namely Neil Etheridge, Christopher Camcam, David Basa, Yannick Tuason, Patrick Hinrichsen and Jason de Jong.
Etheridge and de Jong are regular rotation players for the Azkals and should encounter no competition in their spots but Belayo, Dolino and Bedic are all prime candidates for starting jobs with the team.
The PHL SEA Games team seeks to dethrone Malaysia, with Vietnam and Singapore as dangerous darkhorses.
