Tipon To Do A Rocky?

Just like Rocky Balboa, he feels he has one more fight in him.

So it's back to the comeback tail for former national team member Joan Tipon, a fast rising star for the Philippine boxing team in 2007-2008 but who's career was derailed by a shoulder injury.

Tipon was a gold medal winner in the 2005 SEA Games and in the 2006 Asian Games but failed to qualify for the 2008 Olympics and has since been in a tailspin. A shoulder injury relegated him to the sidelines and to coaching his former teammates as they prepared for various international tournaments.

At 29 years old, Tipon is long in the tooth as far as amateur boxing is concerned but he feels that he is in a good enough condition to give it one more whirl. He plans to compete in the bantamweight category, which has a new weight limit (56kgs).

Tipon has been impressing ABAP officials so much that he has been included in the list of 6 boxers who will compete in the Jackson Tournament which will be held in Uzbekistan this May 7.
