The world's four top ranked teams will not meet each other in the group stages of the 2010 World Championships.The USA, Spain, Argentina and Greece were put in 4 different brackets to ensure competitive balance in the groupings.
FIBA also decreed that no more than 3 European teams or 2 teams from the Americas will be grouped together.
There will be 3 teams coming from FIBA Africa (Angola, Cote d' Ivorie, Tunisia), 4 from FIBA Asia (China, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon), 5 from FIBA Americas (Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Puerto Rico, USA), 2 from FIBA Oceania (Australia, New Zealand) and 10 from FIBA Europe (Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey).
