Goodbye, Yao!

It all ends.

Not just for Harry Potter, the boy wizard who captivated the world but also for Yao Ming, the gentle giant who captivated the basketball world.

When the 7'6" Chinese joined the NBA as the first ever Asian to be drafted #1, he took upon his slender shoulders the hopes and dreams of not just Rockets faithful but also of the more than a billion Chinese people who cheer for their native son.

And Yao Ming proved to be the real thing. Unlike other taller-than-tall players like Manute Bol, Georghe Muresan and Shawn Bradley (whose main contribution was being tall), Yao Ming proved to be the real thing. He had low post moves that approached Olajuwon-levels, a shooting range that was even better than Patrick Ewing's and a free throw stroke so perfect he was the team's designated FT shooter.

He ends his career with the Rockets 2nd in most blocks, 4th in most FT's made, 6th in both points and rebounds in just 9 years of action.
