FIBA-Asia Champions Cup Cast Finally Complete!

Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Those are the final two teams that will join the 2011 FIBA Asia Champions Cup which will be held at the PhilSports Arena from May 28 to June 5.

Saudi Arabia will be represented by Al Ittihad while Iraq will field in Duhok. Duhok stands as a representative of the Middle East region while Al Ittihad takes the place of an Eastern Asia representative.

Japan and Korea, traditional East Asian basketball powerhouses, declined to join the tournament.

Al Ittihad and Duhok is bracketed in Group A with Smart Gilas as well as Jordan's ASU of Jordan and Malaysia's KL Dragons.

The much more competitive Group B, has very strong teams, with Lebanon's Al-Riyadi Beirut, Qatar's Al Rayyan, the UAE's Al Shabab, Iran's Mahram and Syria's Al Jalaa all capable of winning the tourney.

In last year's Champions Cup, Smart Gilas logged a 1-3 record and lost in the quarterfinal round to Lebanon's Al-Riyadi Beirut.
