Naturalized Chinese For Philippine Women's Team?

The success of Smart Gilas with Marcus Douthit has started their female counterparts thinking. Would the same strategy work for them?

This is something the PHL Women's Team is willing to try as they seek approval for their own naturalized player when they  compete in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup for Women this August in Nagasaki, Japan.

Philippine women's coach Haydee Ong is hoping that the naturalization papers for 6' 4" Zheng Xiaojing come through in time for the tournament. The 26 year old Zheng has been practicing with the Discovery Perlas National Team for the last three years and hopes to formalize her entry into the national team this year.

The Discovery Perlas Women's Team, much like the Smart Gilas Team and the Philippine Azkals, are experiencing unprecedented success in international competition. They won the Division 2 SEABA Women's crown last October, kindling hope that they can move on to Division 1.
