The Gilas Lineup Vs Qatar: An Update

So here's the final 12 for Gilas against Qatar:

Aguilar, Japeth
Belga, Beau
Cabagnot, Alex
Dalistan, Paul
Erram, JP
Lassiter, Marcio
Norwood, Gabe
Pringle, Stan
Sangalang, Ian
Taulava, Asi
Thompson, Scottie
Wright, Matthew

Left out are:
Almazan, Raymond
Malicsi, Allein
Slaughter, Greg
Standhardinger, Christian

Here's my take:

We already knew Standhardinger was probably not going to play against Qatar so that's no surprise. Besides, I'm pretty stoked to see Stanley Pringle play. So this is pretty okay.

Slaughter's absence is just the latest in a long list of disappointing non-appearances but hey, we're used to that. Let's check how he is in the next window.

Malicsi's exclusion is disappointing but hardly unexpected. So far, Malicsi seems to be the quintessential Gilas filler, the automatic 12th man. But hopefully his improving defense should get him more court time...in the future.

Almazan's exclusion is the most surprising development here. I mean, Asi's in the lineup and the Ageless One is only good for very specific assignments (like Haddadi). So why isn't Alaman in the lineup? He's supposed to be part of Gilas' frontline of the future. But he can't beat out a 45 year old man? Given Almaan's relatively weak performance in the Asian Games, this is a red flag. Makes me think he isn't very suited for Coach Yeng Guiao's system.

Anyways, that's the lineup and I think it's a strong one offensively. Let's hope we blow Qatar away.
