It started out much like yesterday's game. Gilas seemed sluggish, out of sync and overly conscious of their offensive sets, leading to hesitant playmaking and overpassing. On defense, they were no better, fouling randomly and at the most inopportune time.
Then, something else happened.
Some kind of basketball magic hapopened during halftime and the men of Gilas seemed to transform right before our eyes. Gabe Norwood, who was ineffective yesterday, became the all around basketball stud we knew him to be. 8points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks, both of which led to Jayson Castro layups, were his final tally for the night.
Jeff Chan sizzled from outside, ending up with 17points, on the strength of 5 threepointers, while Jayson Castro used his speed to flummox the Jordanian defense, ending up with 16points. Marcus Douthit was his ever reliable self on both offense and defense while Japeth Aguilar was a monster on defense, forcing the Jordanians into several misses in an effort to avoid him.
That being said, the Gilas we saw in this game has more than enough talent to win over Chinese Taipei tomorrow...but only if they do not give the Taiwanese the same advantage they've given the KSA and Jordan - a headstart.
