Gilas Loses To Chinese Taipei, 79-84!

It hurts.

13 point lead in the 3rd, Jones Cup invite being rescinded, repeatedly humiliated politically despite our apologies...All these came into play as the Filipino natin mourn tonight's loss.

But despite the loss, I am not among the many Filipinos who are embittered by this.

Why? For three reasons.

Chinese Taipei's otherworldly 3 point shooting. There is no team in the world, not the Miami Heat nor the San Antonio Spurs, not Team USA nor Spain, not Rain Or Shine nor Ginebra, who can consistently do what the Taiwanese just did. More importantly, the Taiwanese can't do what they just did in this game consistently. Shooting such a high percentage on threes is simply not sustainable. We just caught them on a hot night.

Gilas fought. The boys never gave up. Tonight, the bounces, the rolls, the gimmes didn't fall our way. But we're just too good to not have them fall our way. Sooner or later, Gary David will get into his groove. LA Tenorio will recover his deadly form. Jeff Chan will regain his three point shooting form. And we won't miss those kinds of shots the next time.

It's not the end of the road. So we lost. This isn't the "win or go home phase" yet. If we're going to lose, better do it now than lose in the quarters or semis. And, if Gilas needs a wake up call, this is as good as any. If this doesn't shake them up, nothing else will.

That being said, time to go to work on Monday against Japan. We better get back to our winning ways.
