After consecutive 4-1 wins, the Azkals found themselves on the wrong end of the beating after losing to 2nd division Bundeliga team, Ingolstadt, 4-0.
According to German sources, Ingolstadt fielded in their first team, which then scored all 4 of their goals in the first half.
Moritz Hartmann, one of Ingolstadt's leading scorers for the season, scored the first goal in the 14th minute of play. His goal was followed by Fabian Gerber's header, an Etheridge miscue that became the third goal then a goal by Leonard Haas.
Despite the loss, the Azkals remain upbeat, knowing that Ingolstadt was a superior team and a good test of the Azkals prowess. Etheridge may have conceded several goals but he stopped several more attempts, which would have ballooned the score.
What is really evident is that the back four must become more stingy, more solid, more desperate in defense. Ingolstadt dominated the game and kept the ball in the Azkal side of the field. Better defending could have forced the action to the middle of the field, with opportunities for a breakaway goal.
That being said, our strikers and midfielders must also be more active on the defensive side so that they can help create scoring opportunities.
