And the Gilas program just basically ended.
JV Casio joins Marcio Lassiter, Chris Lutz, Mac Baracael, Mark Barroca, Dylan Ababou and Jason Ballesteros in this year's PBA draft.
(More on this story here.)
The entry of JV Casio in the PBA Draft means that only two players are sure to return to the Gilas Team: Marcus Douthit and Chris Tiu.
While Marcus Douthit serves as the muscle of Gilas while Tiu is the heart, they'll need more than that to continue on their path to Asian supremacy.
They'll also need to replace the amazing point guard skills of JV Casio, the ferocity of Mark Barroca, the sniping of Mac Baracael, and the tenacity and firepower of both Marcio Lassiter and Chris Lutz.
That is going to be a tall task. While the future is bright, with the likes of Kiefer Ravena and Bobby Ray Parks proving to be blue chip players, it'll be more than 2 years before they'll be ready for Asian basketball.
By then, the Gilas program may have faded away again. But let's hope not.
