Weiss Opens Door For De Jong Comeback...But Not With Azkals!

Fil-Dutch midfielder and defensive specialist Jason De Jong can suit up for the PHL...but not with the Azkals.

Instead, he will be considered for a spot with the U-23 PHL team that will be competing in the the SEA Games, said Azkals coach Hans Michael Weiss.

De Jong first fell out of Weiss favor when he belatedly informed the Azkals coaching staff that he would not be able to join them for the Mongolia match in the AFC Challenge Cup playoffs. His reason was his commitment to Indonesian club Persiba Balikpapan, which then terminated his contract for missing practices and unbecoming behavior.

Weiss says that De Jong must now prove his maturity and commitment to the country's football program by joining the U-23 team and helping them place in the SEA games before he can be considered for the Azkals team again.
