RP POWERADE TEAM SHOCKS CHINESE TAIPEI 77-70!

James Yap and Willie Miller, acknowledged PBA gunners, sucked for the first 3 games of the FIBA Asia elimination round.

And then, in a game where the Philippines was given a slight-to-none chance of winning, they finally showed up with guns a-blazing.

Yap (23 points) hit 4-6 three pointers, including 3 straight threepointers in the 3rd quarter to put the Philippines up for good while Miller (17 points) hit 5 of 5 three pointers, including a game sealing one with 14 seconds to go and the Philippines up by just 2 points.

Terrific interior defense from the RP big men (Thoss, Pennisi, Raymundo and Taulava) kept the Taiwanese at bay while Dillinger, Helterbrand and Norwood were solid at the perimeter.

The Philippines go up against Iran tomorrow at 11am. Again, pundits say that they have no chance of winning.

But the ball is round and anything can happen.
