Wesley So Gets Back On Track!

Filipino Grandmaster Wesley So finally nails down a much needed point in the Asian Continental Individual Chess Championship by beating Fide Master Javad Alavi Sayed of Iran.

This is So's first win after back-to-back draws. He is now in joint eight along with 9 others players, including fellow Filipino Darwin Laylo.

Chinese GM Bu Xiangzhi captured the solo lead by getting his third point via a win over Indian GM Parimarjan Negi. He is followed by his compatriot s and fellow GMs Yu Yangyi and Ewen Yang, who have 2.5 points apiece.


The top four finishers will represent Asia in the 2011 World Cup later this year.

Persiba Dumps De Jong!

This, definitely, was not the way to make a good impression.

Much excitement was generated when Azkal Jason de Jong was signed by Indonesian Super League team Persiba Balikpapan, the only Azkal player to do so.

Three months later, that excitement has turned to chagrin as the Azkal was released by his club.

Persiba management cited indiscipline and the failure to consistently attend training as the reason they have ended their contract with de Jong.

De Jong was signed by Persiba for half  the ISL season for the princely sum of IDR 500 million (USD58,000).

De Jong has not yet issued any statement yet nor has he aired his side of the story.

The outspoken boxer is once again riding on Pacquiao's popularity to bolster his own as he claims that all of Pacquiao's recent victims are mere leftovers from his own career.

Mavs Shock Lakers Again!

The Mavs pulled off a shocker by beating the Lakers in Game 1. Could they do it again?
Evidently, they can and did, winning Game 2 93-81.

The Dallas Mavericks scored just 17 points in the third quarter but they also held the Lakers to 13 points to take a 6point lead into the fourth. They then continued to choke the Lakers offense to submission as Kobe Bryant (9-20), Ron Artest (4-10) and Lamar Odom (3-12) had less than stellar shooting games.

First, Derrick Rose accepted his MVP Award.
Then, he spent 48 minutes reminding people why he's the MVP.

With the Hawks trying to upset the Bulls for the second time in a row, Derrick Rose kicked it up another gear and almost singlehandedly willed the Bulls to a Game victory 86-73.

And that's why it should come as no surprise that the LA Clippers' Blake Griffin will become the NBA's rookie of the year for 2011.

Griffin averaged 22.5 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists in a scintillating rookie season that comes with 2 major NBA awards: the slam dunk crown and now, the rookie of the year award.

He's also the first rookie to play in the All-Star game since 2003, when Yao Ming was a rookie, the only rookie to be named rookie of the month 6 times (the last rookie to do that was Chris Paul) and he logged 63 double-doubles for the Clippers.

John Wall was Griffin's nearest competition for the award and it wasn't even close.
